Today was a lucky day. We headed north to the beautiful Lamar Valley of Yellowstone. That is where you can often see bear and wolves...
...and today Ally spotted a black bear wandering through the sage. Not too close but close enough to watch for a while. That's the way we like them.
The Yellowstone River cuts....
... and winds through the northern reaches of the park after it plunges over the Upper...
... and Lower Falls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
Ally and I took the long hike to the brink of the Lower Falls...
...where the river falls over 300' to the canyon below leaving behind...
...a beautiful rainbow in the mist.
I think all that hiking is making Ally fit as can be. I can barely keep up with her now. She did that uphill climb out of the canyon like it was nothing and waited...
...for Grandma to join her at the top where I could show her...
...the Osprey nest sitting right in the middle of the canyon as it has every time I have been here. Looks like there's a new hatchling in there.
This was an especially lucky day because once again we found snow! We stopped at Mount Washburn, where you can climb to the highest point in the park, and there it was. Wonderful snow!

That was a long day but Ally still had the energy to finish the things she needed to do to earn her second Yellowstone Young Scientist award. This time she decided she wanted the Young Scientist key ring to wear on the zipper pull of her jacket
The next day she worked on finishing her Junior Ranger badge at the Junior Ranger station at Madison Junction.
This is a beautiful part of the park where the Gibbon and Firehole Rivers come together to form the Madison River. Our campground was just up the hill to the right overlooking the rivers and meadows below.
She had a good time working on her project with the other kids.
The Rangers of Yellowstone take the education of these Junior Rangers very seriously. They always have time for the kids.
