It's May 16th and we're a little early this year in taking off for the north country. We know this as we've been watching the weather in New Mexico and Colorado (very chilly), our destinations this next week. We've not reached those 100 degree temps in the desert and there is still snow to be found along our route. Our first snow shows up in Arizona before we reach our first night's stop. Why are we leaving that nice warm desert so early?
Cody, our very intelligent, handsome, fun grandson is graduating from high school on May 22nd. We have to see this in person as it's hard for us to believe this can really be true. How can we possibly be old enough to have a grandson graduating from high school? It's very confusing.
Ally, our now 10 year old granddaughter, will fly to Denver for Cody's graduation and then will join us on our annual road trip. Ally and Peggy stopped by the night before we left to load up her things for the trip and to see how her crutches might work if she has to take them with her. She has a pretty nasty sprain from a crash and burn at school. She's tough. On the plus side she gets lots of attention and crutches are always fun for a few days.
Our first night out found us at Greer, AZ in a beautiful NFS campground with an easy walk to the Greer lakes. I've always wanted to stop here and it did not disappoint. The wind whistling through the ponderosa pines welcomed us back to the camping lifestyle in the land of "No Gottas" that we both love.
Our next stop, after a wild ride in the wind, was to visit our good friends from our kid's nursery school days, Sandy and Larry, in Mountainair, NM. We had stopped to visit them a couple of years ago and when I look back at the photos we took then I can honestly say we haven't aged a bit. All I can say is that it's a good thing JET is not with us at the moment or some of you would know what she would say to that one....unprintable!
We arrived in Evergreen the day before Ally arrived by plane. She'd had a fun plane trip with her new friend, Delaney, Cody's sister, and Caden, her younger brother. We think Caden is destined to be an engineer/scientist like Pop. Alison was making him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and asked him if he wanted it inside or out. He looked at Alison with a questioning look and said, "On the inside." I think he wanted to say, "Are you nuts? Peanut butter and jelly always go on the inside of the bread." That's exactly what Ron would say! You'd better be specific with these engineer types and that starts at a very young age.
Ally and Delaney, being of the female persuasion, knew instantly what Alison was asking and answered that they wanted theirs outside, of course.
Meanwhile Pop and Cody caught up on the plans for Cody's trip to Europe after graduation. Lucky guy.

Great to see you are on the road again. We are still in AZ with the triple digit temps, so you have done the right thing... but you knew that! We hope to be rolling soon, ourselves.
