We’re getting serious now in our quest for snow and we’ve headed to northern California and Lassen Volcanic National Park located at the southern end of the Cascade Mountain Range. We have hope of more snow but for now we’re happy we’ve found a little snow here in Gurnsey NFS campground not too far from Lassen.
Ally is not the only one who loves snow. Charley and Denver think this is a lot of fun. Hang on Pop!
I think this snow angel is going to look like she needs a bath. This isn’t exactly white fluffy snow but it will do for now.
After a good night’s rest, and a bit of rain, we’re on our way to the park and things are looking up. The higher we climb the more snow we see falling from the sky.

We found it. Kohm Yah-mah-nee (Snow Mountain) Visitor Center and enough snow to get Grandma and Pop off the hook.
All four types of volcanoes found in the entire world are represented in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Volcanoes found in the park include shield (Prospect Peak), plug dome (Lassen Peak), Cinder Cone (Cinder Cone), and Composite (Brokeoff Volcano) volcanoes. Unfortunately, we can barely see Lassen Peak today and we can't drive to see all the other features of the park as the main park road is closed due to snow! They're hoping it will be open before mid-June. We go from not enough snow to too much. That's the chance you take when you arrive in the mountains before mid-June.
That did not stop Ally from learning about the park and about volcanoes. Since their Ranger talks and tours had not begun she had one on one with Ranger Nick to share with her information about the park. Since she was the first Junior Ranger of the season he also presented her with a warm and toasty pull on cap with the Lassen Junior Ranger patch on it as well as the usual Junior Ranger badge and patch for her jacket.
He thought she looked pretty good in a real Ranger hat.
That looks like a real Arizona Snow Bird!
