Shark flying! Olympic National Park, WA 6-9

The night before we left Beachside State Park in Oregon Ron met some nice folks who were there for a kite flying contest to be held the next day. When they found out we would be on our way the next morning they gave Ally a kite to take along with hopes that we would find some clear beach weather in which to fly it.

We arrived at Olympic National Park, Kalaloch Beach, Washington this afternoon just in time for the rain and drizzle to stop. We didn't waste any time as this was to be our last beach stop of the trip. Out came the "Shark" and off Ron and Ally went to enjoy some beach kite flying. I got to enjoy the fun from a bluff above them.

Even though Ally had flown kites before, Pop just had to show her "how" one more time. That's what grandparents do. Finally, it was Ally's turn.

It's a good thing the "Shark" was nice and black. We could see him flying against those dark clouds above.

Often, when you're on the Washington beaches, there are signs that tell you to be careful swimming when the tide is coming in. It often carries large pieces of driftwood in to shore. Being hit by one of those would give you a serious headache.

Now it's Ally's turn to show Pop how to really fly a kite.

Run, and that kite will follow you wherever you go.

Ally used up all the daylight and then headed back to our home on the road for a good night's sleep with the sound of raindrops on our roof.
