We were thinking that we might head back west through North Dakota's Theodore Roosevelt National Park but then we decided to call the fly shop in Cody, WY to check on fishing conditions on one of Ron's favorite rivers, the North Fork of the Shoshone. The fish were biting so you can guess where we headed. Our first night out we stopped in Mitchell, SD, home of the "Corn Palace" which we felt deserved a quick drive-by and I mean quick. We wondered what was to follow at Lake Mitchell City Campground. Were we surprised. Our site overlooked the lake and it was just beautiful.
The view out our back window was perfect. I always love a room with a view and this room surely had one. We would have stayed longer but the fish were calling.
The fish were waiting for Ron and the rain we've seen so often this summer joined us again each afternoon. We spent a couple of weeks of lazy days on the Shoshone before heading across Yellowstone to fish the Henry's Fork River in Idaho.
We stayed a couple of days at the Buffalo NFS campground in Island Park, ID and I knew we were back where we belong when I heard splashing in the river near us and looked out to see a bull moose chasing his sweetie across the river.
Ron doesn't get excited by much but the hatch on the Henry's Fork kept him there for hours. He said he'd never seen anything like it. Now, for some of us, hatch means as in hatch an egg but for Ron it's all about a bunch of bugs on the water. He was in his glory with his bugs.
While he fished I got to enjoy the beautiful scenery of this part of Idaho just west of Yellowstone. Much of this land is preserved as part of the Harriman Wildlife Refuge.
One of the advantages of traveling in an RV is that I can enjoy the view, take a shower, read a book, have lunch...
walk the dogs, hike a bit.....
do a little photography...all while Ron chases those illusive trout. A most satisfactory day!
