Does a bear......?

We often take for granted the answer to the question that is asked to reinforce what is to be taken as a given. I must be tired because even I don’t understand that sentence! That question is, “Does a bear……….(you know the rest don’t you?)? After considerable thought and careful analysis and a slight accident that took place today our answer would be “No, not always.” Just after we crossed the Canadian border we passed a grizzly bear very near the edge of the road. As luck would have it Ron actually had the camera ready to go. Very shortly thereafter we stopped and Ron jumped out to do the tourist thing and take a picture of our entry into Waterton Lakes National Park of Canada. Unfortunately the bear appeared to have left his calling card on the side of the road rather than in the woods. The bulk of that calling card was now on Ron’s shoe. So now when that famous question is asked we will be able to say with authority “Not Always!” We stopped immediately because the problem had spread to the carpet in front of the passenger seat. We pulled off in a beautiful setting and what did we see but the big sign that said “Welcome to Alberta – Wild Rose Country”. We are going to suggest to their tourist bureau that perhaps that sign should read “Welcome to Alberta – Watch where you step”.

Just remember if someone asks you that question you may need to be skeptical. It ain’t necessarily so!
