We were out of touch for a while as we traveled in Canada. Our internet satellite was too low on the horizon for us to pick up a strong signal. But…….we’re back! That is… in the USA. There’s no doubt in our mind that you’ve missed this blog in our absence. Yes, the altitude is finally causing us to become delusional.
There have been many things in our travels through Canada that I thought I would blog about but of course now that time has passed and my fingers have not danced over the keyboards on a daily basis I can no longer remember exactly what they were. A few observations come to mind:
1) The Canadian Rockies are magnificent, huge, extraordinary. The rivers and lakes are the most beautiful shade of turquoise blue that is caused by the glacial flour in the water. If you’ve never seen the Canadian Rockies, and love to be in the mountains, this is a trip you definitely need to put on your wish list. Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper are the best kind of eye candy. One of our favorite Canadian Parks is Waterton Lakes National Park that adjoins our Glacier National Park and together they become the Glacier Waterton International Peace Park (75 years old next year). There is an all day hike that is offered from both sides of the border to Canadians and U.S. Citizens where the two sides meet at the border to shake hands. I am going to do that hike someday! Must make plans, more plans! The photos here were taken on the approach to and at Waterton Lakes National Park.
2) The Canadian Pacific Railroad has the most beautiful train whistle we've ever heard. The tracks tend to follow the rivers through the mountains and at night the train whistles can be heard frequently in the campgrounds. Instead of being annoying they are beautiful as they echo off the mountains and filter through the tall pines. Never thought I'd say that about a train but we all miss the sound of them at night. Strange!
3) You may need to check with your local motor vehicle department for a special license that must be available. We have noticed that many people have these and you may need one too. If you find yourself getting tense when following a motorhome on a two lane road, even if that motorhome is going or exceeding the speed limit, one of these special permits is for you. It will allow you to pass on a hill, pass on a curve, pass with double lines and cars heading your way – no fines, no tickets. Check today – you may need one!
4) It is always good to come home. We had a wonderful time in Canada but it’s a great feeling to come back across the border.
