After a short one night stay at Farragut State Park (where we managed to get one of the only available spots) so that we could have a visit with Ron’s cousin Jim and his wife Linda, who live nearby, we hit the road again heading south towards Lewiston, ID. It was great to see Linda and Jim again and we really appreciated Linda’s help in running errands before we headed out again. Nothing like having a personal shopper when you’re in a strange grocery store. Hope to see you in AZ sometime soon!
We planned to stay in Hell’s Gate State Park but there must be a reason they call it that as it was hotter than ---- so we drove on to a beautiful site on the Lochsa River between Lewiston and Missoula. The drive is the Lewis and Clark Scenic Byway and that it is. It’s one of my favorite types of drives with twisty turny roads and gorgeous rivers. We had planned to stay there and fish but again the heat and the smoke from nearby fires sent us packing the next day. The drive down 93 takes us through miles and miles of beautiful wilderness.
Ah, at last, August 2, we have a great spot on the Salmon River just south of Salmon, Idaho. We were headed to the Sun Valley area but happened to check out this BLM campground – Cottonwood Recreation area. What a gem! We’ve decided to sit here a while and catch up on relaxation, fishing, blogging, reading, bird watching, wildlife watching. We’ve finally found temps in the 80’s instead of the 90’s and the smoke from fires is staying out of this canyon. There’s a beautiful soft breeze all day and the bird music is wonderful. Next week we’ll head to the foot of the Sawtooth Mtns. for a little camping along the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River before we head south to Ketchum and the Big Wood River. Ron is off to work. Can you see the deer in the background? I think one of these years we’ll head back this way in September – they say the fishing is great then.
JET here: One heck of an exciting life wouldn’t you say? Hope you can stand it! Boring! Where’s the party? Even that dog that talks all the time is sleeping the day away in the breeze.
