Okay, say it, we're fickled. The minute we arrived in the Jackson, WY area I knew this is where we would spend our summers of the future. So....I had said a few blogs ago that it would be CO but...I've changed my mind and Ron agrees. We've returned again to Grand Teton National Park Gros Ventre campground. We were here two years ago in September with Lu Ann and we watched the moose roam through the campground each day. What a sight. This year we saw them about a mile away from here but we know that one day we'll be out walking and there will be one winking at us.
We think we'll base out of this campground each summer and make runs to the Hoback River (25 minutes), Yellowstone (1 hour), and other beautiful areas that are so close.
The campground is huge (over 300 sites) but we have more space and privacy than anywhere we've been. It takes an hour to walk to the other end of the campground and return. The dogs love it and sleep outside all day. The temps are perfect.
Jackson is only 8 miles away and the airport, for any of you who want to come visit, is about 10 minutes away. The vistas (photos all taken from the campground) are fabulous. We seem to need that as we're so used to seeing long distances in AZ. It's amazingly quiet, except for the sound of nature. There's a ranger program every night. I love that. It seems that most folks coming through the Tetons arrive late in the day and are tired. They pack it in early and leave the next morning. During the day the campground and river are left to a few folks like us who see what a paradise this is. Take a look........not a bad summer home at $9 a night!

Jane, you aroused my curiosity about the campground, so I Googled it. A website called HikerCentral.com says the following:
"Gros Ventre (pronunced GROW-VONT)Campground in Grand Teton National Park is not to be missed. Moose viewing is spectacular, as well as hearing wolves, coytoes, and the sounds the Bison make walking through the campground. Depending on your campsite, try to be close the the Gros Ventre River for Moose viewing, or try to go towards the town of Kelly, for the most magnificent views of the Teton Range."

That pretty much says it all. It's a wonderful place to put down roots for a while. Since you are such an ardent follower of our travels perhaps we can talk you into a visit to the Tetons next summer. We'll be here!
