7-29 Three Dollar Bridge - that's right, $3

We’d heard this was a great fishing hole on the Madison River and as I listened to the local Montana fishermen, and those who had come from all over the country, talking about the river as they got out of their trucks and headed out to fish I thought to myself that Ron was going to have a good morning. He hit the jackpot.

He was able to fish for about 2 hours before his hip started telling him to seek dry land and in that time he caught a load of trout (and released them). His hip kept him from fishing the next day as he had planned but he’ll come back next year with a new hip and give those trout a run for their money. He can’t negotiate the banks and big rocks so we’re going to head back to the Grand Tetons and the GrosVentre River where access will be easier for him.

The story of the Three Dollar Bridge fishing hole is an interesting one. It’s been a hot spot for years. Many contributors from across the country helped secure this spot as public water and today they have a box for anglers to make a voluntary $3 contribution. Most who came while we were there contributed. Only a few ignored the request. That’s the way it is.

I had fun photographing the beautiful scenery and the swallows who reside in the eves of the bridge.

Those baby swallows were very demanding. The activity to get those babies fed was non-stop. In the air the swallows looked black and white but up close they had some very vibrant coloring. Surprising to me. We keep learning something new every day. That’s a good thing.
