One of the advantages of staying in one place for a while is that you meet and get to know some new folks. The dogs are magnets and Ron is a social butterfly. Thanks to them I got to know Carol and Ahmad from Florida who come to the Tetons every year to camp. Ahmad is a retired college math professor (right up Ron’s alley) and Carol still teaches but is on sabbatical through this fall. She loves the semi retired life and thinks she may just take the plunge soon to full retirement. The best thing is that they love to hike and Ahmad loves to break out of camp at daybreak and stalk the animals (with a camera that is). We’ve been having a great time with them. We left at 6:30 this morning and took a spin by Mormon Row Historic District, a late 1800’s homestead community that is still standing. Mormon Row dispersed in the mid 1900’s when the land was acquired to expand Grand Teton NP. This barn is beautiful in the morning light.
Today’s hike was to Bradley Lake, another one of the beautiful mountain lakes at the base of the Tetons.
There was a slight ripple across the water creating a blurred, but beautiful, reflection when we arrived at the lake.
The clarity of the water is amazing. I looked down at one point and all looked dry so I stepped down off a rock only to find myself ankle deep in water. It’s that clear (or my eyesight is bad – possibly). You can see the logs on the bottom of the lake as if they were near the top.
As we returned to camp we were greeted by antelope grazing across the way in the afternoon sun. They looked just like the figures made of sticks found in many of the Native American ruins. Now it’s time for a nap!
