We’re now camped on the Gallatin River south of Bozeman,
Montana. It’s one of our favorite places and
it’s cooler than the plains of eastern Montana.
We're no longer whining about the heat. It’s also convenient to the airport in Bozeman from which Ally will
fly to Minnesota for a 10 day “boot camp” break and some lakeside fun with Mom and
family over the 4th of July.
Ron and I will just chill here on the river while she’s gone.
This is a river of great fishing and great whitewater. It’s always fun to watch the whitewater folks
come through. This morning a young
kayaker kids group from Bozeman hit the water at our campground. They first practiced their rolls and then
they “peeled out” for their kayaking adventure.
Some of the rolls were a little shaky but the instructors worked with
them to be sure they were safe.
Ally is thinking she’s glad she’s on terra firma after
seeing one girl capsize as she headed down the river. She was back up and moving on in a jiffy with
a little instructor help.
I think I’ll be able to roll with another 2 years of practice! I’m thinking whitewater
looks like fun. Give it up, Jane!
Morning chores are waiting.
Here on the Gallatin there is no running water at the campground. Ally thinks pumping water is fun. One thing camping often does is teach you to
appreciate the simple things in life like turning on a faucet and a 20 minute
hot shower! Ally is learning that water
hasn’t always flowed, and doesn’t always flow, with a twist of the wrist. Sometimes you have to work for it!
There’s a drinking fountain, too, if you just exercise those
muscles a bit. Great tasting water it
is.
