I’ve looked at the portage from String Lake to Leigh Lake
and thought it doesn’t look too bad.
Today Ally and I are going to test our strength. We’re headed down to the portage now.
I won’t say it was easy but we managed to make the portage
to Leigh, including carrying the kayaks down those stairs behind Ally. Now we have to put our paddles back together
...
...put ourselves carefully ...
...and gracefully into the kayaks...
...and we’re off!
We paddle a little and glide a little just to soak in all
the beauty.
Ally has discovered “one tree island”, her name for it. It’s a tiny little island with (you guessed
it) one tree on it.
It’s time for dining out, our style. We do dine in the most beautiful places!
We’re headed for Leigh Canyon to the left of Mt. Moran. It looks so close but it’s a long way from
us.
Keep paddling, Ally.
Is she going to Paintbrush Canyon on the left or Leigh Canyon straight
ahead or is she just going with the flow so to speak?
Everywhere we look the mountains tower over us. Time to head for home before Pop starts to
worry about us.
Back up those stairs we went and then hooked on our wheels
to make the portage.
You didn’t think we
actually carried those kayaks did you?
Just another paddle up String Lake for a mile and we’ll be ready for
some R and R. Whoops, I forgot. Now we have to clean the kayaks and load the
gear and drive back to camp. Back in the
moving business again! It’s so worth it!
