8-2-2012 Back to yak!

It’s Scott and Ally’s last kayak trip and they’re on their way to the portage from String Lake to Leigh Lake.
Oops!  It looks like they didn’t see the sand bar or maybe Scott is causing the boat to sink lower in the water?  Hmmm.

Hey, Ally.  Wait for Dad.

Looks like Scott walks on water or rather in water.

Finally!
Did they see a bear in there?  Yep, they did.  I had just walked by with my Nikon on the other shore on my way to the portage and I didn’t look to see what was slowing them down so I missed a great shot.
Ally managed to get the camera out of the kayak dry bag and took a shot as the bear was getting out of the water.  Not the greatest but they did see a bear only 100 feet away.  Fun!

There’s no free ride.  Time to do some work.

Put those wheels on.

Carry on!

Up and over that root.

Up the hill.

We did it!  Powerful!

It’s not easy carrying a kayak down those stairs.

Phew!

One more to go!  Teamwork!

Got rocks in your socks?

Ahhh!  That’s better.

Leigh Lake looked calm as they headed away from the portage.
They did a little dining out, our style.
It was after lunch when the wind cranked up and big gusts came out of Leigh Canyon at the base of Mount Moran.  That made paddling a challenge and they had a big paddle to get back.  The kayaks performed really well with no tippy stuff but it was a lot of work.
They were pretty tired by the time they got back from the return portage to String Lake.  Is that Ally taking a nap while her Dad gets his kayak going?

The safest way to get in a kayak.  Grace doesn’t count.
Only a mile to go and they’ll be ready for some serious R and R.  This was a big boot camp day.

Heading home on nice quiet String Lake.
The next day Ron and Scott got in a little fishing on the Snake River.

What a beautiful afternoon it was.
Their last day here Scott and Ally took to the slopes.  Off we went to the Alpine Slide on Snow King Mountain for a bit of quick fun.

Up they went.

Got legs?

Here she comes.

Looks like there’s not enough excitement for Ally.

Dad is on his way.
How did he get those legs on there?
Then we were off to Ally’s last visit and Dad’s first visit to the Jackson Lake Lodge Grill.  She loves that soda fountain seating.

That night Scott said good-bye to the Gros Ventre and all the fishies hiding within.
A fisherman never gives up.

Scott and Ally are going to miss this place when they head home on the 5th of August.
They are going to miss all the good times in the Tetons and we’re really going to miss them when they’re gone.  Sing it, Ally!
