Hoh, Hoh, Hoh

We encountered the red light district of the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park as we entered the park. The forest is full of fascinating vegetation growing along the glacial Hoh River. When these gigantic trees fall they are soon covered with mosses and plants. As seeds drop on them new trees begin to sprout on top of the log. This log becomes a nurse log for these new seedlings whose roots extend around them into the ground. As time goes on the strongest of the seedlings survive and the nurse log gradually disappears. What is left is the row of seedlings, now huge trees that tell a story of how they began. Another blogger educational moment!

JET here:

Forget her educational moments. Next she’ll be telling you how to defrost a steak. You won’t believe this one. They were cooking out the other night and had to turn the generator on in order to run the microwave to defrost her steak. In the first place, if they would just stay in a place with a few amenities (like basic electricity) they wouldn’t have to use the generator. The steak didn’t quite defrost all the way and they didn’t want to turn the generator back on so the brilliant one decided to put it under her armpit to defrost the rest of the way. Yep, that’s right, her arm pit!!!!!!! If you ever try to use this method please be sure the baggie it’s in is zip locked ALL the way. You get the picture. I will admit it did defrost the steak but was the clothes washing worth it? Like I said don’t listen to her educational moments!
