We decided not to follow those directions and instead took the ferry ride from Port Townsend, WA, a quaint (ie. lots of shopping and little restaurants) Victorian seaport – one of three on the National Historic Register - to Whidbey Island, WA where we are based for a few days at Deception Pass State Park. From the ferry we could look back and see the lighthouse at Fort Worden where we had stayed the night before.
One of our crew of four, whose name shall not be mentioned, said the “W” word a day or two ago and we now have that stuff falling from the sky on a regular basis. We’ve discovered that even people from MN whine about the climate!

While Doug, our youngest, was in the Navy a few years ago, he was stationed on Whidbey Island for about three years. He never saw a ship or boarded one, but he loved the island. Went hiking, camping, and bike riding during his time off. We visited him there one time and stopped at a nearby pick-your-own red raspberry farm. MMMMMMMM!
