A forty mile drive took us from the Crater Lake region to a beautiful narrow canyon along the North Umpqua River and the Horseshoe Bend NFS campground. It’s a different world down here - ferns, hardwoods, beautiful tall pines, cedars, and of course the river rippling and talking to us by our campsites. It’s a dense rain forest type atmosphere. Ron is off casing the fishing holes after finding a tiny hole in the trees through which to seek our satellite for internet connection. He loves the challenge. This is a big change from the national forest campground at Diamond Lake to being in the real forest. We’re showing Sandy and Dave the more rustic side of national forest camping. Don’t want to break them in too slowly. Next we’ll have them showering under the stars to save tank space so they can stay longer on the river!
