I’ve been doing some thinking about our BLOG and what is a BLOG? That just goes to show a lot of idle thought hovers in my brain. This must be important though as often people ask me to describe a BLOG.
If you’re in the 21st century and trying to keep up with the latest and greatest you may know that a BLOG is a web log. What’s that? In layman’s terms a BLOG is really something like a very boring daily Christmas letter to family and friends. That’s it – you’ve got it – the “dreaded” Christmas letter, although there is one Christmas letter that we receive every year that our entire family loves to read but it’s because the author’s husband provides her with so much material (Hi Judy). Not only that, a BLOG joins forces with the album of “vacation” photos that everyone wants to show you. Yep, you’re really smart – the “dreaded” vacation photos. So, if you’re really that smart why are you reading this BLOG?
What does a BLOG do?
As you age, and of course we have not but we have heard of this, your short term memory evidently goes south and we start saying things like “In the good old days” and “Remember when we paid 25 cents for an ice cream cone and 25 cents for a movie?”. We can’t remember what we did last week but we sure can remember 40 years ago! Well a BLOG helps you stay in the near present. Notice I don’t say “present”. That would be a bit much to ask. It’s so easy to go look at yesterday’s BLOG and look at what you had for lunch, where you went shopping, etc., etc. It’s there in black and white so you can talk about these exciting things as if there were no short term memory loss. A BLOG keeps you “au current” and very cool! However, that’s where a BLOG becomes dangerous as it’s a dead give away to your memory loss when your BLOG starts talking about your mundane daily activities in detail. I must go write this down so I don’t forget that my daily activities must be kept secret. No memory loss here!
A BLOG let’s your family know that despite the fact that they think you really slipped over the edge when you bought the RV you really are out there somewhere. Back to the memory loss thing – it’s always a good idea to put a link on your BLOG (we did, “Check our Location”) so your family can find you if you forget to come home. If you don’t show up by the first snow in the high country they’re sure you’re not having fun - you just got lost or forgot to come home. Little do they know!
A BLOG lets your friends tell you what’s happening at home. Of course, they have to be very politically correct as a BLOG allows the world to see what they’re writing. Most of our friends are not politically correct and that must be why we don’t hear “Comments” from them on our BLOG??? Could that be it or is it the dreaded Christmas letter thing?
So, our friends asked if we will be blogging this year. I guess we must.

Mom,
This is a great tool you have discovered. I will be setting up a blog myself just so I can keep track of my car keys. Will you ghost write for me though? Call when you can. Love, Alison
